With rider demand slowing down in the private hire industry, many PCO drivers are looking for alternative ways to earn until things pick up again.

The team here at Otto Car have put together a list of the top delivery companies that PCO drivers and Uber Partners could apply for using their current PCO car.

From pay to perks, we’ve got all the details below. We start with probably the most well-known company for PCO drivers, and that’s Uber.

Uber Eats | Work for Uber Partners

Who are they: Uber Eats are one of the top food delivery apps in the UK.

Some of the perks:

  • Easy to transition to an Uber Eats account if you’re already an Uber Partner
  • Flexibility – Work when you want
  • Tips feature so earning potential is higher

Some Negatives:

  • Picking up food from high-street food shops may be problematic with parking
  • Some deliveries that are cancelled by the delivery partner will not be eligible for the full delivery fee.

Who are they: Yodel is an independent parcel carrier that delivers millions of parcels every week to postcodes across the UK. They delivery on behalf of huge online and high-street retailers.

  • Regular work for drivers thanks to their strong network with top retailers
  • Excellent support including tax assistance

Some Negatives:

  • Some drivers have complained of long hours
  • Lots of heavy lifting is a common complaint

Can I use my PCO car?: Yes you can (up to 3.5 tonnes)

Phone Requirements: Android or iOS smartphone operating with Android 6 or iOS 13, with storage of at least 100Mb free, GPS, 5MP+ camera with flash/ torch, 3G/4G SiM, 2GB+ memory.

Some Negatives:

  • Some drivers have complained of a lack of training

Can I use my PCO car?: As long as it is reliable and has a valid MOT and insurance.

Who are they: Amazon are the UK’s largest online retailer with a variety of products and services from Amazon Prime to groceries.

  • Constant work

Some Negatives:

  • Drivers have stated the work is high-paced
  • Lack of support from management is also quoted

Can I use my PCO car?: Four-door cars or vans can be used at Amazon Flex sites

Phone Requirements: You will need a vehicle and an Android phone (6.0 or newer) or an iPhone (5s or newer) with iOS 11 or higher and with at least 2 GB memory space. Your device needs to have a SIM card, a camera with a flash, and GPS Location Services. We’ll provide access to the app and opportunities to deliver.

Driver Rates: Earn £12-15 per hour. Earnings estimates are based on delivering a number of parcels across an estimated length of time

Who are they: Beelivery is a nationwide on demand grocery delivery service. Established in 2015, they provide deliveries as quick as 15 minutes using crowd-sourced delivery drivers

  • Actively welcomes Uber Partners and PCO drivers to join

Some Negatives:

  • Relatively new to the market so work may be inconsistent
  • You have to pick up the product and pay for it yourself. You’ll then be reimbursed afterwards along with delivery payment
  • You’ll be rated by the customer and depending on performance, you may receive more or less jobs after.

Who are they:  Deliveroo are of the countries largest food takeaway apps in London and have exclusive partnerships with established eateries such as Five Guys and Subway.

  • Get £250 for each person you refer

Some Negatives:

  • Difficulty picking up food on busy high streets with your PCO car

Can I use my PCO car?: Yes you can.

Requirements: iPhone (iOS 11 and above) or Android (6.0 and above)

The clients: The public

Driver Rates: Riders with Deliveroo work on a fee per delivery model, meaning you get paid for each delivery you make. The exact delivery fee varies per order and includes a variable distance fee. They state you could make as much as £120 per day.
