How does Uber Clean Air EV Assistance work in 2024

Uber Clean Air Plan was first introduced in 2019 to help clean up London’s air with the aim of fully electrifying the Uber fleet by 2025.

Eligible drivers can use their accumulated Uber Clean Air EV Assistance to lower the cost of renting or purchasing an electric private hire car.

The Otto Team have been getting a lot of questions about how the Uber EV Assistance works and how to make the best of the new Uber PowerUp Package in 2024.

Here are our expert answers to frequently asked questions by our family of PCO drivers, so the Uber community can make the switch for less money.

What is the Uber PowerUp Package?

Uber introduced the new PowerUp Package in May 2024 to help make the switch to electric more affordable.

The Uber PowerUp Package includes three initiatives:

• Non EV drivers in London can get up to £5,000 of EV Assistance to switch to electric
For example, an eligible driver with £2,000 Uber EV Assistance will receive a top-up of £3,000.
• Big savings on selected Kia EVs
Check out the new Kia Niro EV and Kia EV6 on our popular all-inclusive ownership plan Rent 2 Buy +
• £750 of free charging credits
Be one of the first 8,000 active Uber drivers to get 3 months of £250 bp pulse charging credits

Eligible Uber drivers can now claim £5,000 EV Assistance

What are the eligibility requirements for the £5,000 Uber grant?

To be eligible for £5,000 EV Assistance, you must have:

• Completed fewer than 10 EV trips in the 6 months before 21 May 2024
• An EV added to your account by 30th November 2024
• Less than £4,900 in EV Assistance or Uber Clean Air funds
• Not previously used your EV Assistance to purchase an EV and subsequently switched back to a non-EV

How to build up new EV Assistance?

You’re no longer getting any additional Uber Clean Air Plan funds on the EV Assistance scheme.

However, Uber drivers who have accumulated funds will continue to be able to use it to lower the cost of switching to an electric PCO car, and EV drivers will receive 10% higher rates (compared to UberX) on all Uber Green trips.

Uber Green is a ride option available exclusively to Uber drivers in fully electric vehicles in the whole of London. It works the same way as a regular Uber, just not applicable for plug-in hybrids, hybrids, diesel or petrol.

How to use EV Assistance on Rent 2 Buy +?

Eligible Uber drivers purchasing an electric PCO car can use the whole amount of the accumulated EV Assistance to reduce the weekly payments on their Rent 2 Buy + contract. Please note, this cannot be used towards the down payment.

How to use EV Assistance on PCO Car Hire?

If renting an EV, drivers can claim £300 of EV Assistance towards a 4-week PCO Car Hire contract.

Please be aware that once your EV Assistance run out (which for most drivers will be within the first year of the contract), you’ll have to adapt to paying your weekly payments to Otto Car without the EV Assistance for the remainder of the contract.

Is there an expiry date to use the accumulated EV Assistance?

Uber partner drivers with EV Assistance have until 31 March 2025 to use their Clean Air funds to switch to an EV. After this point these funds will be reallocated and made available to other Uber Partners wanting to make the switch to an EV.

Please note, Uber doesn’t have any confirmed plans to put restrictions on petrol, diesel and hybrid cars on the platform by the March 2025 deadline.

Which PCO cars are eligible for EV Assistance discounts?

All electric PCO cars are eligible for the EV Assistance discounts, including the popular Tesla Model 3 at Otto Car.

Please note that only fully electric vehicles are eligible, hybrids and plug-in hybrids are excluded.

With the new Uber PowerUp Package 2024, Uber drivers can save big on owning a brand new Kia Niro EV and Kia EV6.

How to find out how much EV Assistance I have?

You will receive an email update every month with the amount of EV Assistance money you have built up — try to search for ‘EV Assistance’ in your mailbox.

Otherwise, you can write to Uber’s support team via the Uber driver app Help section.
