Episode 1 – Life of a Private Hire Driver.

Private Hire Driver London

Cabbie007 & Gig Guy London

A Brief Summary

One of the beautiful things about the private hire career is the independence. It gives drivers the freedom to work and live the way that they choose to.

That’s why we wanted to kick off the series with an episode dedicated specifically to the life of a private hire driver. We dive into the inner workings of the career, discussing what each day holds in store for Uber drivers, including what a good day looks like, and what a bad customer looks like too. We also explore some of the changes that London private hire has seen over the years, and some top tips for boosting your earnings on the road.

Our Guests

Our guests this week were Cabbie007 and Gig Guy London.

Cabbie007 is best known for his YouTube channel for PCO drivers. Having originally started out in the black cab trade, his videos describe his private hire experiences, including the ins and outs of getting set up and working as a London Uber driver.

Gig Guy London also drives here in London, and has similarly launched a successful YouTube series specifically for private hire drivers. His videos include reviews of different operating companies, his advice for earning more on the job, and health, fitness and safety.

What’s Covered?

The podcast kicks off with the expectations that both of these drivers had when entering the career, exploring how their current experiences stack up to this, and how the industry has fundamentally changed over the years, specifically in London and across the UK. We find out what a good day looks like for both of these PCO drivers, and how they personally deal with bad riders and tough situations.

If you’re a private hire driver that’s looking for some tips to boost your earning potential, then you might also be interested in hearing about what Cabbie007 and Gig Guy London feel about timings, different seasons, rider ratings and the industry as a whole.

Both of them have different perspectives and opinions, that have been built up over years of working in this profession, and there are some genuinely good pieces of advice which could potentially help all PCO drivers within their own careers!

Upcoming Episodes

Episode 2: Women in the Industry

We’ll be talking with two female private hire drivers to get their thoughts on whether the industry could be supporting female drivers more, the perceptions of women in this career, and why there are so few women behind the PCO wheel.

Episode 3: Going Electric

There’s lots of different opinions out there about what it’s like to start driving a PCO electric car. We decided to sit down with two drivers who are actually doing it, to find out their general experiences and top tips for making the switch.

Episode 4: ViaVan

ViaVan are one of Uber’s biggest rivals in London. In this episode we sit down with Jess Oppetit, the General Manager of ViaVan, to find out how the journey in London has been so far, where the industry is going, and what’s next for the operating company.
