Meet the Otto Team in Ilford
In the past year, the Otto Car Ilford hub in East London has grown to meet the high demands for the private hire community. To better understand how the hub has changed and what it means to PCO drivers, we recently had a chat with the team.
Bigger team, shorter waiting times
“It’s so much different now in Ilford,” said Ijaz, the Hub Manager of our Ilford hub. “We’ve seen more and more new customers come to the hub.”
“With much higher demands, we’ve built a bigger team here with Hassan, John and Chris, so waiting times are significantly reduced and drivers can get our support much quicker.”
Having joined Otto Car for over a year now, Ijaz’s job is to make sure drivers are given everything they need, from guidance on choosing the right vehicle to driving tips and more.
“We’re here to ensure all drivers are welcome. We strive to offer the best customer service, and help them throughout their private hire career.”
He added that one of his priorities is to give PCO drivers honest advice, for example, by explaining the different pros and cons of driving a plug-in hybrid or electric car as an Uber driver.
“We’re delighted to see our drivers trust us, and make word-of-mouth recommendations to their driver friends.”
“The most fulfilling part of my job is to see drivers start their new journey and become successful drivers. Some of them come back and start a new Rent 2 Buy contract with us, that brings me a sense of accomplishment.”
Treating drivers like friends
As a PCO driver himself, Customer Relations Advisor Hasan is happy to share his personal experience with the Otto Family.
Hasan’s daily work includes communicating with drivers and helping them choose their ideal PCO car. “Drivers come to us for PCO Car Hire and Rent 2 Buy + plans. It’s important for us to let them know their options, which could be an EV, or a hybrid.” He said there is no ‘best’ car, but the most suitable car depending on one’s circumstances.
“I enjoy speaking with different drivers like real friends. In addition to giving them tips about PCO driving, I like to keep in touch with them personally to better understand their needs, and we’ll know we can help.”
Hasan’s favourite car in the Rent 2 Buy + range is the recently introduced Skoda Enyaq iV 80 Suite. “This is one of our most popular PCO cars. It’s zero emission. It has a lot of legroom, with a huge boot. And it has more gadgets compared to the iV 60. More importantly, it’s range is amazing, with 339 mile range (WLTP). I can see why it makes a great car for Uber drivers.”

Otto Car is not just a car company, we care about safety. That’s why we have our driver development experts to keep our drivers and passengers safe.
Driving assessor John takes drivers out for a quick driving assessment, and gives them practical tips to enhance their PCO driving skills.
Most of the time drivers are humble and happy to know how they can improve their driving. “Apart from driving assessment, I also explain to drivers the importance of having a dashcam in a PCO car.
All vehicles from Otto Car come with a TfL-approved dashcam to protect PCO drivers if they are involved in any accidents or passenger disputes.
Chris G from the Driver Development team goes through all safety alerts that get flagged up in our system, reach out to them and coach them.
“Sometimes we see drivers use their mobile phones while driving, or go over the speed limits, I would speak to them over the phone or arrange a 1-to-1 session to help them become safer and better drivers.”
“We are not trying to give drivers hard times, but what we do is to make sure drivers get home safely, and help them save money by avoiding getting fines. ”
