Which is better for Uber driving: the MG4 SE vs MG4 Trophy?

news-open-image

One of the most popular PCO cars right now is the MG4 due to its amazing value. Otto Car offers a choice of spec-levels: the MG4 SE or MG4 Trophy and this blog will help you make the decision that’s right for you.

Is the MG4 a good car for Uber driving?

Let’s begin with the basics. The MG4 is a compact hatchback that blends practicality and fun into one package. Its shorter length is ideal for city driving and yet it somehow still qualifies for Uber Comfort.

And speaking of fun, the angular styling and two-tone bodywork of the MG4 look sportier than most rivals. If you want an affordable PCO car that’s ready to play and ideal for city driving, this is the one.

What is the difference between the MG4 SE and Trophy?

You could say the MG4 SE is the standard spec while the MG4 Trophy is the luxury edition but this is a bit harsh, as both cars have great kit, including 17in alloy wheels and heated front seats. Even the SE packs in plenty of tech, such as heated door-mirrors, lane keep assist and driver-attention alerts.

These cars are both Long Range versions and as the MG4 is one of the newest models in MG’s line-up, it has the firm’s latest battery tech, with an 8-year warranty. (Main warranty is 7 years or 80,000 miles).

One difference is that the Trophy edition has factory-fitted leatherette seats, whereas the SE comes with fabric seats. Even this is not a clear advantage, though, as Otto Car gives free leatherette seat-covers for its PCO drivers on every new car. These are typically fitted a few weeks after the car is first available.

Why should you choose the MG4 SE?

Aside from the lower weekly price, some of you will have noticed that the SE has a slightly longer range.

This is because the Trophy edition adds a distinctive rear-spoiler, which keeps the car better grounded at high speeds around corners, yet it reduces range by roughly 4% due to the same aerodynamic effects.

What are the advantages of the MG4 Trophy?

The Trophy does provide several nice-to-have extras, such as an electrically adjustable seat for the driver and 360° parking cameras. You also get cool gizmos such as lane-change assist, blind-spot detection and a wireless phone charging-pad.

One less obvious benefit of the Trophy model is a false floor in the boot. The folding rear-seats are split in both versions – which is great when you take skiers to the airport – but this false floor provides a hiding hole to stash the charging cable when not in use. Another bonus is privacy glass in the rear seats.

How does the MG4 compare to the MG5?

The MG5 is an estate model with a huge boot that’s ideal for airport runs. The look and feel of this car is totally different to the MG4 and we’ve done a comprehensive head-to-head blogpost right here

Overall verdict

Otto Car is careful about which models we offer and our team usually makes clear choices about which spec level is ideal for PCO drivers. The MG4 is an exception as both options are great. It’s purely about whether the bonus features of the Trophy justify £10 extra per week – and if you like that rear spoiler.
