Private hire driver tips: Driving during Ramadan
- The Otto Team
- February 24, 2025

Ramadan is a meaningful time for reflection, devotion, and fasting for Muslims worldwide. At Otto Car, we know many of our private hire drivers will be practicing this while still working hard on the roads.
Fasting from dawn to dusk can impact energy, focus, and overall wellbeing. We’re here to support you in staying safe, comfortable, and healthy while driving during Ramadan.
Here are some easy tips to help you take care to keep yourself and passengers safe.
- Listen to your body and know your limits
- Prioritise rest and sleep well
- Drive carefully and stay alert
- Take breaks and rehydrate when possible
- Plan your routes and driving hours wisely
Listen to your body and know your limits
Fasting can leave you feeling tired, thirsty, and less alert, which may impact your driving. Pay attention to how your body feels and watch out for signs of sleepiness, dizziness, or trouble focusing. If you’re feeling too exhausted, it’s best to take a break.
Prioritise rest and sleep
Your sleep schedule changes during Ramadan, so it’s important to get as much rest as possible. Lack of sleep can make it harder to focus and react quickly on the road. Try to plan your day so you can rest properly, even if that means taking short naps when needed.
Drive carefully and stay alert
Fasting can affect your energy levels, so be extra careful on the road. Keep a safe distance from other cars, follow speed limits, and stay aware of what’s happening around you. Other drivers may also be feeling tired, so drive with caution and be ready for unexpected moves from others.
Take breaks and rehydrate when possible
If you feel too tired or distracted, pull over safely and take a short break. Look out for early signs of fatigue like yawning, slower reactions, or struggling to stay in your lane. After breaking your fast at Iftar, drink plenty of water and eat a balanced meal to help regain your energy.
Plan your routes and driving hours wisely
Traffic can be busier at certain times during Ramadan, especially before Iftar. Try to plan your shifts and routes when you feel most awake and comfortable. Avoid working long hours if possible, and take regular breaks to stay fresh.
