Rent 2 Buy explained

Why Rent 2 Buy?

If you're an experienced PCO driver who's tired of endlessly renting or wants to upgrade their PCO car, this is the scheme for you.

Rent 2 Buy is more or less what it sounds like. You pay weekly rental fees for the length of your scheme, and at the end of it the PCO car will be fully yours.

If PCO driving is a long term career for you, then Rent 2 Buy is the perfect scheme for you.

What's included?

Your PCO car comes with free PCO insurance, servicing, MOT, road tax, PHV licence and breakdown cover.

There is no credit check and the scheme includes a 4 week holiday break. Our PCO cars also come fully fitted with our state of the art CCTV camera system.

You can focus on PCO driving, and we'll help you take care of the rest.

Will I own the PCO car at the end of the payment plan?

Yes! All the log-book details and information will be transferred into your name at the end of your scheme.

What are the payments required?

Down Payment

Down payments start from just £199. Please check the individual Uber cars on our Rent 2 Buy page for exact pricing.

The down payment is refundable if you cancel your Rent 2 Buy order at least 7 days before picking up the car. Unfortunately, if you cancel your order within 7 days of your pickup date, we cannot issue any refunds.

Does my weekly rental price include servicing and insurance?

Yes. Servicing and PCO insurance is included free of charge in your plan. This includes nine free services up to 100,000 miles.

What's not included in the payment plan?

Wear and tear items such as tyres and brakes are not included and will be your responsibility to replace.

Are there any charges at the end of my contract?

Once your payments are completed, there is £200 admin fee to change the log book into your name. That's it!

Am I eligible?

What if I have a 'bad' credit-score?

This isn't a problem. Here at Otto Car we're more interested in your present than your past.

Not a problem. After 3 months you can cancel with 4 weeks notice.

Please keep in mind that you will lose all of your rental payments up to that point.

In addition to this, if your total mileage exceeds 1000 miles per week then you may be liable for any excessive mileage charges. There is also a £200 cancellation fee if you decide to cancel before the contract finishes.

What if I cancel the Rent-2-Buy Contract and had a fault accident?

If you had a fault accident whilst on the Rent 2 Buy Contract then you will still be liable for the insurance premium.

Insurance

How do the insurance costs work?

Insurance is free with your Rent 2 Buy plan.

What is PCO insurance?

You are covered on our fleet insurance for third party claims and the cost of the car. Your liability is limited to £500 for any fault accident and we cover the rest.

Does PCO insurance cover on-demand delivery services?

Yes it does. Our PCO insurance covers deliveries for companies such as Uber Eats. Please speak to a member of the Otto Team for more information.

Mileage Section

What is ‘Delivery Mileage’?

Delivery mileage includes mileage from the dealership to the TfL licensing facility, and then to our garage where you collect your new car. This is usually 30-40 miles.

Is there a mileage restriction?

Yes. We have a fair usage policy of 1000 miles per week. If you exceed this, you will be charged on a monthly basis but your contract length will be shortened meaning you own the car quicker. You’ll never pay more than the agreed price set out in the contract.

Excess Mileage Charges

Mileage Cap 48,000 miles/year = 1000 miles/week + 4 weeks Holiday.

Excess mileage costs £0.20p per mile that you've gone above the cap each week.

Penalty charge notices (PCN’s)

How does Otto Car transfer liability to the PCO driver?

As the log book of the PCO car is in our name, the PCN will come to us first. We'll then transfer the PCN into the PCO drivers name who can then decide to pay it or appeal it.

Is there an administration charge for PCNs?

Due to the amount of time and effort it takes to transfer liability, there is a small charge of £10. This is significantly lower than most of our competitors.

The assessment

Why do I need to do an assessment?

It’s all about safety. We want our PCO drivers, their passengers and the general public to be safe. As a reputable lender, it’s our duty to make sure we’re putting quality drivers on the road and ensuring that the right driver is going into the right car.

How does it work?

How does it work?

When you come to one of our hubs, you’ll be greeted by a member of the Otto team. You’ll have a chat about your working history and desired PCO car and scheme. You’ll then be invited to meet one of our experienced driving instructors who’ll run you through the driving assessment.

The assessment is split into two parts:

Theory test - This involves answering between 15-20 multiple choice questions on the basic highway code and also the private hire industry.

Driving test - you will be invited for a 15 minute drive with our experienced driver to make sure that your driving meets our standard.

Finishing the assessment

What happens at the end?

We will assess your overall PCO driving and then give you feedback on your strengths and weaknesses. You’ll either be invited to sign up to one of our schemes, or alternatively we won't be able to accept you onto one of our schemes.

We can also help with a one to one session, and repeat test, if we turn your application down. This is at the discretion of the driving instructor.

Driver Development Programme

What's it all about?

With a helping hand from our experienced driving instructors, we’re raising the bar by offering one to one sessions at our driver hubs as well as offering cost saving tips and advice to get the most out of your PCO car.

Using our industry-leading telematic data and experienced DVSA-approved driving instructors, we can help PCO drivers raise their driving standards.

Am I eligible

We're currently offering this to our family of PCO drivers who visit our servicing hubs for PHV inspections (case by case).

We plan to expand this quickly over the coming weeks and months to allow more PCO drivers to get onto the programme.

Is it free?

Yes. This is a completely free service.
