Celebrating the success of the Otto Cricket Cup 2022
Congratulations to everyone who took part in the Otto Cricket Cup 2022, which this year was held at Walthamstow Cricket Club on Thursday September 1. It’s the third time that this popular event has been run – and everyone had a fantastic time, despite a few early concerns about the weather.
The company is always delighted to host the Cricket Cup because it’s a fine opportunity to gather the wider Otto family of drivers and staff together, many of whom also brought children or partners along. Some of the kids were happy to mess around – good for them – while others played in the actual match.
Wickets fell and plenty of boundaries were struck but what really matters is that the whole day was filled with smiles as we created lovely memories, many of which were captured in the video above.
Who can forget the sight of Harsha, who kept wicket in a tie-dye shirt, celebrating the moment Otto Car’s head of sales and star batsmen, Matt Cole, got his stumps wiped-out to be clean bowled for 11 runs?
The match itself was an informal affair, with each team containing a mixture of Otto Car staff and drivers. Nobody managed to take advantage of the special offer of a free car for any player who took three catches on the day – although Ash came close with two. These included Richard, Otto Car’s head of marketing, who batted gamely for yet another hard-fought duck. Perhaps he’ll get some runs next year.
On a more serious note (yes, the free car was a joke) credit must go to Sanjiv for taking on the role of umpire for the day and maintaining such high standards. It was also a pleasure to see everyone enjoying the delightful food, kindly provided by Enitan on behalf of local caterer, The Old Station Yard Cafe.
Special thanks to Jack Pinnock from Walthamstow Cricket Club, who helped us to organise this event. It’s worth mentioning that the cricket club is always looking for local players, no matter what level they perform – and membership is only £160 per year. The same venue also offers excellent squash or tennis facilities and the club offers various inclusive packages, with discounted schemes available for families.

Finally, if any driver has ideas for new social events, Otto Car is always willing to listen. In recent times, we have run Go Karting days, five-a-side football tournaments, and even created a winter wonderland.
