Meet our Customer Relations Supervisor Travis

Currently based at our Dulwich hub, Customer Relations Supervisor Travis shares his tips about choosing the right PCO car, and why he loves his job.

How long have you been with Otto Car?

Originally I joined Otto Car back in 2019. I left in September and then came back. I enjoy every moment working here.

Experience-wise I’ve worked in sales, car part sales, and also in the retail and hospitality sectors, where I developed my customer service skills.

Right. I know you love cars, can you tell us more about your passion?

I eat and sleep in cars. I can’t go a day doing something without a car.

The only time I don’t have a car is driving to work — because of traffic you know. But on the weekends, I enjoy driving down to the beach with my friends.

How does your experience help you understand drivers’ needs?

Having the knowledge, especially about electric PCO cars, and from my experience dealing and talking with drivers, I know who should drive an electric car and who should stick with a traditional hybrid.

Interesting. What’s your advice on choosing the right type of PCO car?

Drivers have different preferences and views and that’s totally understandable. Some of them would say EVs are the best for them, while some others may say they’re not for me. Some drive around Central London all day and make good money, and you also get drivers who are used to doing airport runs.

As we all know, electric cars are generally not as efficient as petrol cars on the motorway, especially in the cold weather. But don’t forget, you have to pay Congestion Charge driving in Central London.

So it really depends on a lot of factors. What you need to do is to think about your personal circumstances and compare the pros and cons.

How are you finding the Dulwich hub?

I remember our hub used to be upstairs. It was good, but it was a bit hard to find and was away from everything. Now we’ve moved rooms, on the ground floor, and with more signage, and it’s a much better experience for everyone here.

How has this industry changed over the years?

Obviously the market price of the cars has gone up, generally speaking. The car market has expanded, even used cars are more expensive.

So I’m happy that we find a way to help drivers still afford these vehicles and make it easier for them to pay weekly with Rent 2 Buy and PCO Car Hire. It’s good to be able to help PCO drivers.

Do drivers mainly walk-in, or have they booked an appointment?

About 80% of them came down to the hub with an appointment. Most of the time when they book an appointment, they want to order a car. They just want to have a little bit more information, and to confirm everything.

When they sit down, they love to talk about electric cars and which cars are the best. It’s good because it helps me as well — we learn together.

What’s your most unforgettable experience here so far?

I got a review the other day. I remember it’s a Skoda Enyaq, we didn’t have one but I found the driver one somehow. We got him on the road and he’s really happy. I’m happy that he left a nice review. Once again, I do enjoy my job!

Do you have any favourite spots around this area?

In this building we have a cafe. It’s pricey, but when drivers are here they usually get a cup of coffee there. Even though times are hard, many people in London still end up buying a cup of coffee (laughs). Personally I’m not a fan of coffee, but a hot chocolate drinker. Around here you also have a Tesco down the road, and more shops.

Anything else you would like to share with our drivers?

We are in Dulwich, we’re able to help you out with whatever vehicle you really need, whether it’s a hybrid or an electric car. They might not be available straight away, but have a chat with us and we should be able to help you out.
