PCO driver tips | Avoiding fines (Part 1)

Here at Otto Car, we don’t just help you get on the road, we’re here to help you get the best out of your job too. Here you’ll find our top 6 driver mistakes which result in a penalty charge notice (PCN).

BOX JUNCTIONS

Box junctions are a key mistake we have noticed from PCO drivers.

The Rules: You MUST NOT enter the box until your exit road or lane is clear. However, you may enter the box and wait when you want to turn right, and are only stopped from doing so by oncoming traffic, or by other vehicles waiting to turn right.

BUS LANES

Private hire vehicle’s can also cross bus lanes to gain access to the kerbside to pick up or drop off passengers, but must leave the bus lane straight away. Failure to leave straight away will result in a PCN.

AVERAGE SPEED CAMERAS

The amount of speed cameras on Britain’s road is increasing all the time. Please be aware of your driving speed whilst on the motorway. Roads that our PCO drivers consistently get a PC for are as follows:

OVERSTAYING IN CAR PARKS

PCO drivers continue to get fines for overstaying in car parks. We strongly suggest you to check the times stated in each car park and adhere to their rules. Another reason why PCO drivers are receiving fines is because they are staying in store car parks without purchasing goods, and this could be against their car park policy. Please do not sleep in car parks, as this poses a risk to your driving ability when you start your next shift

RED ROUTES

Signs and road markings along the red routes tell you what you can and can’t do. If you don’t follow signs and markings, you may be issued with a PCN.

DARTFORD CROSSING

You must pay if you use the Dartford Crossing between 6am and 10pm. Payment must be made by midnight on the day after you cross otherwise you’ll receive a fine. The payment service is called the Dart Charge.
